Officials watching state budget

A lthough the school district has managed its money well enough that it hasn’t had to make any staff cuts yet, next year is expected to be one of the hardest years because of the state budget.

The district takes a fiscally conservative approach in an effort to maintain all of its programs.

“I watch what happens in Sacramento very closely;” says District Superintendent Bill McCabe.

McCabe is also closely watching what the new administration is going to do.

Everyone at every level, including schools, is impacted by the budget.
Also, mid-year cuts are expected in January. This could mean that education will receive less money than had been expected and districts will have to make adjustments.

What happens all depends on the state budget, McCabe says. The state is estimated to have at least a $15 billion deficit.
