“I’m bored” is repeated over and over like a broken record
Next time you catch the “I’m bored” virus, try smiling

I’m tired of hearing the words; “I’m bored,” repeated over and over again like a broken record around the Yosemite High School campus. It’s almost as if these two words are programmed to pop out of our mouths every time we have nothing to talk about. This phrase has become more like an “I’m bored,” virus that appears out of nowhere and infects everyone.

What really gets me however, is how everyone is able to convince themselves that they are bored. Who says you have to be bored anyway? Despite what you may believe, being bored has nothing to do with where you are or what you’re doing. The “I’m bored,” virus can only originate from one place, your own mind. Everything in life is only the way people perceive it through themselves. There are no actual good days or boring days. Objects cannot be good or bad. The final decision on how you’re going to feel everyday is completely up to you.

Obviously, every YHS student is not going to suddenly begin to praise the Lord every morning for the invention of calculus and physics, but that is not my point. My point is simply that we all have control over our own feelings and emotions. People too effortlessly make assumptions on things based solely on stereotyping. What makes thunder bad and a rainbow good? When people look at things optimistically, every day becomes a little better. So next time you catch the “I’m bored,” virus in class, try smiling, you might be surprised.
