"We are a young team this year. We
only have two seniors on the varsity team and no juniors, so there is going to
be a lot of rebuilding," says soccer coach Sonja Mazaira. For a team of mostly
freshmen there must be a lot of goals to be set.
"I always set goals for the team,
especially daily goals. My goals are that each player reaches her full
potential both on the field and off the field. Also, that the team would become
united and realize what it is to be a true team", said coach Michelle Boland.
"They all might be young but they
have talent and I am excited about what the future holds for our program," says
Mazaira, commenting on how proud she is of their fast progress.
"I only expect two things from my
team: Excellence and discipline in practice will lead to excellence and
discipline on game day. As a result of having both excellence and discipline we
will have a great season," mentioned Coach Boland.
"What I like the most about soccer
is the feel of all the competition when I am running down the field," says
Ashley Allen. Many of the players feel the same way the coaches feel about this
new season.
Students play soccer for a variety
of reasons. Some do it for friends, family, or just for plain fun.
"I play soccer because I like the
feeling of all the fans, and especially my family, yelling and screaming as I
make a score," said Allen.
