After 15 years of coaching volleyball, Michele Chenowith is retiring from that portion of her career at Yosemite High School. She has been the YHS volleyball coach for the past eight years and assisted before that.

Chenowith played volleyball during her years as a student at YHS when Valinda Clevenger was the coach. Clevenger is now the head counselor.

“I always liked playing volleyball and I thought it would be fun to coach,” Chenowith says. She adds that she will miss the girls she has become friends with while coaching.

She notes that the coach-student bond is closer than a teacher-student bond.

Chenowith ended her years as a coach with a bang. She decided that she would plan a trip to Hawaii with her team this year. “I did it because it was my last year and because I had a lot of seniors this year,” she said.

Chenowith is retiring from coaching because of her seven-year-old daughter. She is starting activities now of which her mother wants to be a part. She does not want to have to choose between coaching and her daughter. “It’s not fair to my daughter,” says Chenowith.
