Yosemite High School band students performed in their new classroom during the open house of the music building January 15. This is the most recent in a long list of construction projects on the campus.

The band and choir students at Yosemite High School started the spring semester in their new music building.

The new building is 4,000 square feet and has two classrooms. It cost over $1 million. An open house was held for the public January 15.

There are four small rooms for band students to practice in private. There is a large area for the band to be seated while practicing and playing. Randy Hyatt is the band director.

The other half of the building is for choir, under the direction of Dr. Tony Mowrer.

The building was specially designed to meet the needs of the students and their instruments.

While the music building has been completed, other projects are continuing.
The old band, choir and drama classrooms are being remodeled. The plan is to tear the inside out and turn the building into a performing arts center. Located in the center will be a stage and about 400 seats. This building will be used not only for drama performances but also for band and choir concerts instead using local churches.

There are many other construction projects on campus. They have already started construction on the swimming pool, although with the cold weather they had repair some damage. They hope to be finished with the pool by August.

Other construction projects include altering the football field to allow 3500 people to sit in the stands. The track will be resurfaced with an all-weather finish.

The baseball season started February 1 on the new field and there are new softball fields.

Within the next few weeks construction will start on the 23 classroom building at the front of the campus. After the foundation is complete it will take from 10-12 months to complete. This project will cost about $7 million. The new classrooms should be ready to use in spring of 2005.

The home economics and art building will be re-roofed and have new heating and air conditioning units.

A 150x200 foot riding arena will be built by the agriculture farm at a cost of about $70,000.

When all of the projects are finished, the Yosemite High campus will have had a $30 million face lift.

The funds are from an $11.76 million bond passed by voters in the Yosemite Joint Union High School District in 1998 with approximately $6 million in state matching funds and an additional $12 million from the state. There have also been private donations and some grants.
