The preliminary construction of the music classrooms and baseball fields has begun. According to Kevyn Moberly, the director of maintenance, operations and transportation, the baseball field will be completed in time for next year’s baseball season, with the backstops and structures expected to be finished by October 1. The field is also expected to be planted with grass by this date.

The field will have right field facing due west and the stands will be behind the backstop. Workers have started to level the area where the baseball field will be and are exporting the excess dirt to the area where the music room will be built.

Construction on the music building should be started after the first of the year. When asked about the music building’s size, Moberly responded, “it’s roughly 5,000 (square) feet.” Currently, the only thing that is going on is leveling the area where it will eventually be built.

The entire construction project is contained within a three-year plan. The plan includes re-roofing the current buildings including the library and the administration building as well as renovating the current drama and music building. Moberly has recently met with the architect to finalize the drawings of the buildings. These drawings were then submitted to the state architect for approval.

A pool is still within the plan and a pool site committee, including several YHS administrators, has been created to generate funds for the construction of a pool. The committee hopes the pool can be started as soon as possible but could still be as much as three years away.
