FBLA members going to state competition
SIDNEY MOE
Seven
members of the Yosemite High Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
chapter will be going to state competition in Irvine April 22-25. These
are students who placed in the top five at section competition. Those
who place in the top two go to national competition.
FBLA is a student organization started in 1940 in the Midwest. FBLA
is to give students the opportunity to get involved in school and community
service, career planning and leadership. Every year the members decide
what activities that they would like to be involved in. They do all
the planning, buy all the supplies and work to make it happen.
At the beginning of the year they have meetings where new members are
invited and introduced to the program. Students can officially join
through January. Any student can join anytime during the year. To get
more information about meetings and activities go to room 31 and see
Linda. Robinson or one of her officers.
Every March, FBLA members have the opportunity to compete against other
members in other chapters in the Central Section. The topics are business
related such as job interviews, business math, computer applications,
accounting and many more. The purpose is to motivate students to study
these topics and to give them the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise.
Highlights of this year's program include the Homecoming parade; food
and gift drive for the needy; Rotary Job Shadowing; competitions; planning
and hosting the Incredible Make Over and Resume workshop; Women in Business
fashion show; hosting a talent show for the Central Section FBLA and
presentations at Back to School Night, Freshmen Orientation and Women
in Business.
Twenty of the club members are in Women in Business. This activity has
paired 20 students with Women in Business members. Once a month, the
students go to the Women in Business luncheon where the meet and network
with their mentor.
Robinson says “The most rewarding activity for me was getting
to know such a great group of young adults. They are fun, interesting
and committed to helping others.” She says she loves her officers
and believes they are the hardest working students.
