Retiring coach sees lots of promise for golf
team

Up
until just a few days ago, the boys’ golf team had moved up from
last place to nearly third place, but a situation snatched their top
spot out of their hands leaving them in fourth.
While at the Bay League Tournament on Tuesday, April 20, the team had
advanced up one spot, but a player was disqualified for a recording
mistake with the scores.
With two tournaments left following this last one, Coach Eric Hansen
said that the team keeps improving each match, despite its age. Consisting
of mostly underclassmen, they have held up well against the opposing
juniors and seniors, Coach Hansen boasted about his team. There was
a tournament in Selma April 27 and the finishing match of the year,
or League Finals, will be in Kingsburg on May 3.
“Lots of improvement from Jason Shrank, most consistent is Ryan
Thompson, very good play out of Kyle Porter and the same out of Kurt
Lauterback,” Coach Hansen mentions.
Although this is Hansen’s last year as the coach, he has high
hopes for the team’s prospects. “The future looks good,
very good next year, really, really good the year after that,”
Hansen said.
After 20 years as the coach and retirement after this year, Hansen added,
“I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t like it. Sure
I’ll miss it.”
