The Yosemite High School varsity football team is doing very
well this year; as of October 4, the team was undefeated.
The junior varsity
had a 4 -1 record as of October 4, as did the freshmen team.
Coach Aaron Eames says the varsity team gets the most help
from its captains, Daniel Reagan, Becher Marr, Cole Popovich, Michael Graves
and Quint Brown.
The varsity team has
defeated Firebaugh, Roosevelt, Oakdale, Kerman and Ridgeview.
Junior Varsity has beaten all its opponents except Oakdale.
The JV game against Roosevelt was cancelled due to air pollution in Fresno.
Their team captains are TJ Grijalva, Alec Campbell, Matt Prescott, and Ryan
Walthuis. Grijalva has scored the most
points this year making him their "scoring machine," according to
Coach Bonner Cunnings.
The freshmen football team beat Madera, Dos Palos, Oakdale,
and Liberty, but lost to Ridgeview.
According to Coach David Eames, their strong players are Tyler Fondren,
Tyler Reist, Drew Marr, Jon Blea, Steven Daniels, Jimmy Deaver and Owen Martin
who has scored the most points.
The teams played Sierra October 11 for Homecoming. They are
scheduled to play Selma at Selma tonight, October 18.
The final three games before playoffs will be against San
Joaquin Memorial at SJM October 25 and then two home games: Dos Palos November
1 and Kingsburg November 8.
