Letter to Parents

 

Yosemite High School is sponsoring a workshop for ALL YHS students and their parents.  The evening will begin with a welcome and overview of the night’s activities in the gymnasium.  The following is a list of workshops.  You will have time to attend 3 workshops.

 

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA SYSTEMRECOMMENDED FOR ALL GRADES

An over-all view of the University of California system featuring Lori Jones who is from the Office of School Relations for the entire UC System.  Ms Jones will give information concerning entrance requirements, costs, and other valuable information about the nine UC institutions.

 

CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY SYSTEMRECOMMENDED FOR ALL GRADES

Angela Prelib from California State University Fresno will discuss entrance requirements, costs, and other important information about the CSU campuses.

 

COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEMRECOMMENDED FOR ALL GRADES

Representatives from Fresno City College and Reedley College and Oakhurst Center will discuss entrance requirements, costs, and other valuable information regarding their schools.

 

PRIVATE COLLEGE SYSTEM – Dina Gonzales of Fresno Pacific College will discuss entrance requirements, costs and the benefits of attending a private college.  

 

VOCATIONAL SCHOOLSRECOMMENDED FOR ALL GRADES

Universal Technology Institute and Healds College representatives will be here to tell you about their schools.  Costs, entrance requirements, advantages of a vocational school, and the transition to the work place will be discussed.

 

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATERECOMMENDED FOR GRADES 9 and 10

Larry Pesetski, I.B. Coordinator at YHS, will discuss the advantages of entering the International Baccalaureate Program at YHS.  If your student is in honor classes, they are in a pre-I.B. program.  Come and find out all there is to know about this prestigious, internationally recognized program.

JUNIOR I.B. CANDIDATESRECOMMENDED FOR JUNIOR I.B. STUDENTS ONLY

Mr. Pesetski will answer such questions as: What does it take to receive a full I.B. diploma? Which colleges accept I.B. course work?  Learn about testing procedures, fees, and the rigors of this demanding program.

SENIOR I. B. CANDIDATESRECOMMENDED FOR SENIOR I.B. STUDENTS ONLY

This is it – the year it all comes together!  Mr. Pesetski will explain scholarships and awards that are offered to our International Baccalaureate students.  Come to this question and answer session to discuss details of your final I.B. year.

 


THE “NUTS AND BOLTS” OF YOUR SENIOR YEARSENIORS ONLY PLEASE

Valinda Clevenger and Bob Yohn, Counselors at YHS will hold two sessions for seniors.  The first will be geared toward seniors who plan to go straight to a four-year college.  The second session will focus on vocational schools and community colleges.  There are important tests and applications that must be completed by certain dates with no exceptions.  A senior must be organized and this workshop will offer suggestions for making that possible.  Jeanne Ratchford, YHS Local Awards Coordinator, will discuss the application process for local awards in this workshop.

 

U.S. MILITARYRECOMMENDED FOR ALL GRADES

Representatives from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, California Air National Guard, Army National Guard, and the U.S. Navy will discuss all of the options of entering the armed forces after graduation from high school.  They will discuss ROTC programs, careers, scholarships and college programs.

 

TESTS, TESTS, and more TESTSRECOMMENDED FOR ALL GRADES

Al Nocciolo, Special Ed and Testing Coordinator at YHS, and Melinda Boren, Testing Coordinator at YHS, will discuss all tests administered at Yosemite High School. (Orleans Hanna, PSAT, PLAN, SAT I, SAT II, ACT, SAT-9/CAT, ASVAB, Goldenstate Exams, A.P. and I.B tests, and the High School Exit Exam)  Dates, costs, preparation workshops and other important details will be covered in this workshop.  Before you leave this session, you will know what tests are important for the future plans of your student.

 

CAREER CENTER TOURRECOMMENDED FOR ALL GRADES

Visit the Career Center of YHS!  Stephanie Samuels, YHS Career Center Technician, will discuss career pathways, student portfolios, and career units offered by grade level.  Come see the variety of information and technology that is available to our students to research aptitudes, scholarship searches, financial aid opportunities, colleges and careers.

 

NCAA CLEARING HOUSERECOMMENDED FOR ALL STUDENT ATHLETES WHO PLAN TO PARTICIPATE AT THE INTERCOLLEGIATE LEVEL

Steve Raupp, Principal of YHS, and Tom Fiormonte, YHS Athletic Director, will discuss eligibility standards that must be met by student athletes in the high school setting in order to qualify for NCAA competition.

 

SHOW ME THE MONEY!RECOMMENDED FOR ALL GRADES

Dave Nemeth and Toni Lagunoff from American Express Financial Advisors, Inc. will discuss financial aid and ways to start planning for educational expenses after high school.  Jeanne Ratchford, Local Award Coordinator, will give an overview of this community’s generous awards program.  Over $100,000 was given to last year’s seniors to further their education.  How can your student enhance their chances of being awarded this money?
