The Yosemite High School 2000-2001 school year was one of exceptional achievement and growth.  The school year began with the school posting a 2000 Academic Performance Index score of 742.  The 42-point growth far surpassed the schools growth target and qualified for both a Governor’s Performance Award and a School Site Employee Bonus Award.  In March, the school’s Academic Decathlon team won its second consecutive State Division III championship.  The highlight of the school year came with the awarding of a California Distinguished School Recognition in May.

The school has also seen tremendous growth in the area of technology.  The school completed the implementation of its Digital High School Grant, providing an infusion of technology into every classroom on the campus.  We were also successful in securing an Education Technology Grant that brought additional technology to the campus.  We were one of only ten schools in California to receive an EAST grant (Environmental And Spatial Technology), which will bring close to a half million dollars in hardware and software to the campus.  Over a three-year period over one million dollars in technology has been infused into the educational programs at Yosemite High School.

With this increase in technology have come changes in curricular offerings and instruction.  A Cisco training program was begun during the 2000 school year, which affords students the opportunity to gain valuable technical skills.  The EAST program will begin next year with a high-tech lab that will offer students cutting edge technology in CAD, engineering, and computer animation software.  A new desktop publishing class is scheduled to open next year, which will offer students the opportunity to learn publishing skills in a real-life context.  These courses, coupled with existing computer technology, internet, and programming classes, will offer students a wide-range of technical courses that will prepare them for the world of work in the twenty-first century.
