Students at Raymond Granite High School mix community service with academics, helping other schools in the area and working on the history of the community.

Students do the landscaping at their own school and also maintain the grounds at Raymond Knowles Elementary and at the Fidget Midgets program.

Students have made coffee tables, refinished furniture from schools and their homes, built a bike rack and they build Western Bluebird nesting boxes.

They also study culinary arts, making such dishes as Chicken Cordon Bleu, Chicken Marengo, Chinese stir fry and Pasta Alfredo.

Academic activities in-clude Internet updates on the Mars rover, Lego robots programmed on the computer, current events, group readings of classical myths and plays, vocabulary building, algebra and computer competency. They have art lessons every three weeks.

They use the Discovery Channel to enhance their studies of history, science, health and other core subjects.

The school offers day classes as well as an independent study program.

Students say they like the small school and they like the family atmosphere.

“It’s a family setting; we really love our kids,” comments teacher Jerry Lebovitz.
