District adopts passive consent
for surveys

The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) will be administered to freshmen and juniors at Yosemite High School and all students in the district’s alternative education schools this spring.

The survey is required as part of Safe and Drug Free Schools money the district receives from the federal government through Title IV funding.

The survey is anonymous and confidential.

Parents may exclude their student from the survey if they so choose. To exclude a student, write to Earlene Ward at 50200 Road 427, Oakhurst, CA 93644 and let her know your student is not to participate in the survey. Give the student’s name and grade in school, or the name of the alternative school the student attends.

Unless students are specifically excluded by their parents, all of the students mentioned above will participate in the survey.

This is a new state regulation known as passive consent. The Yosemite Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees adopted passive consent at a recent meeting.

Parents may review a copy of the survey by contacting Ward at 683-8801 ext. 338. The survey will be administered in early May.
