Students have opportunity to apply for summer employment at fair
Applying for summer jobs was a little easier for about 150 Yosemite High School students who took advantage of the opportunity to visit with seven area business representatives at a Job Fair on campus.

Sponsored by the YHS Career Center, under the direction of Stephanie Samuels, the fair was held after school in the cafeteria.

Local businesses set up tables, handed out applications, talked to the students and conducted interviews.

Mrs. Samuels said the students had the opportunity to prepare a resume, fill out applications, dress appropriately for an interview and be interviewed.

Business representatives said they look for cleanliness, self-confidence, an outgoing personality and a positive attitude when selecting an employee.

A person who is responsible and motivated is someone with whom they can work. They also are impressed by the applicant who will keep checking back to ask about the job. This shows that the person wants to work.

First impressions are important, the employers say. Someone who introduces himself or herself and shakes hands makes a good impression.

Employers say they are looking for people who are willing to do any task assigned and who will work hard and work well with all kinds of people.

Businesses participating in the Job Fair were: Raley’s, Tenaya Lodge, Water Sports, Shilo Inn, Miller’s Landing, Castillo’s and The Pines Resort.
