Coarsegold School activities keep students busy

A Civil War re-enactment, ad DVD Yearbook and an Ecybermission are among the activities that have kept Coarsegold School students busy this year.

Eighth grade students learned about the rigorous life of a Civil War soldier, the roles women played during that era and the use of weapons (no ammunition was used) when members of the Civil War Re-enactment Society visited.

They learned about uniforms, firing rifles, bayonets, bugle calls and firing cannons. They were told that women sometimes followed their husbands in battle, serving as their valets. Some also worked as spies.
Seventh and eighth grade students have worked all year to produce a DVD Yearbook. They generated 90-95 percent of all the photographs, tracked the billing on a database, created entertaining and informational videos and en-hanced the photographs on the computer.

In April the students did a “Best Of” awards show with a red carpet and spotlight.

Hard-cover yearbooks and videos are available, call Jon Corippo, 683-4842 ext. 214 or Tracey Hurd, ext. 240.

Eighth graders also participated in a course of study developed by the US Army called Ecybermission. The purpose is to develop the scientific method in students and help the community.

Projects include recycling paper, producing a wildfire safety video, developing information about health care facilities in Coarsegold, studying endangered species and feasibility of a cell tower.
