Students win Superior at Peach Blossom Festival

For the last several years, Valerie. Porter’s class and MaryAnn Englehart’s class from Coarsegold Elementary have performed at the Peach Blossom Festival at Fresno State. Each year, they have achieved a Superior rating, the highest possible score.

The purpose of the Peach Blossom Festival is to encourage elementary school children to gain knowledge and appreciation of literature through oral interpretation. Last year, nearly 5,000 students from over 200 schools in all parts of the Central Valley performed by reciting poems, speeches and such. Because Mrs. Englehart is now teaching 5th grade, they were able to send one large chorus and two smaller choruses of students from both classes.

The theme this year was patriotism. The large chorus performed “A Patriotic Primer,” by Lynn Cheney. The smaller choruses recited “Songs from American History.”

The students performed for the Showcase of Schools in March and will perform again at the Spring Extravaganza in May.
