Construction on
the swimming pool at Yosemite High School is continuing. The pool
is scheduled to be ready for use when school opens for the 2004-05
year in August. This is just one of several construction projects
underway on the campus.
Bids were scheduled
to be opened February 18 for the performing arts center at Yosemite
High School. The former music and drama building will be completely
remodeled into a 400-seat center.
The building was vacated over winter break when the choral and band
classes moved into a new music building. The drama classes are temporarily
housed in portable classrooms until the new center is completed.
Weather conditions have put work on the swimming pool on hold temporarily.
The next step in that project is to set tile.
Work will begin within the next few weeks on the 23-classroom building
at the front of the YHS campus.
The athletic facilities project continues with work on the track and
football field and softball fields. Kevyn Mober-ly, director of maintenance,
operations and transportation for the district, says the softball
fields will be among the best around when they are completed. The
track will have an all-weather surface when that project is finished.
Funds for the construction projects have come from an $11.76 million
bond passed in 1998 by local voters, from state matching funds, state
bond funds, grants and private donations.
Construction has been ongoing since 1999 to expand and renovate the
campus. The school has a capacity of 1600 students, giving it “plenty
of room to grow,” says District Super-intendent Bill McCabe.
