State allows hike
in Developer Fees

The State Allocation Board raised the allowable Devel-oper Fees to $2.24 per square foot for residential buildings and 36 cents per square foot for commercial development.

Local school boards voted in December to raise the fees charged locally to that level. The increased fees became effective February 16.
Developer fees must be paid to local school districts before building permits can be issued. All local fees are paid at the Yosemite Joint Union High School District office on Road 427 in Oakhurst.

Fees are then split between YJUHSD and the elementary district in which the construction is taking place. YJUHSD receives 40 percent of the fees and the elementary district receives 60 percent.
Money from Developer Fees is used by districts for construction or reconstruction of school facilities.

The California Education Code gives school districts the authority to assess development fees within their boundaries for construction or reconstruction.

The California Govern-ment Code requires that the maximum assessment for development be adjusted every two years by the State Allocation Board during its January meeting.
