YHS summer music camp to be held one week in July

A new five-foot Yamaha baby grand piano(shown) and a used Baldwin piano were recently added to the Yosemite High School music department. Choir teacher Dr. Tony Mowrer, standing above, says the grand piano is a “gorgeous instrument.” Shown at the keyboard is Jonathan Costa, a junior at YHS, who is one of three accompanists for the choirs.

A week-long summer Music Camp will be held July 7-14 from 7:30 a.m. -12:50 p.m. at Yosemite High School.

The class is intended for students who want to brush up on their music skills, meet new friends, have fun in music and be prepared for the fall season.

The program is for all potential music students and will be conducted by Dr. Tony Mowrer, YHS choir teacher, and Randy Hyatt, who will be the new band instructor in the fall.

Two pianos have been purchased for the music department. One is a brand new five-foot Yamaha baby grand and the other is a used Baldwin upright. According to Dr. Mowrer, the grand will eventually go into the renovated theater but will spend the next year in the choir room.
The upright piano will be placed in the practice room in the new music classroom building currently under construction.

Fifty new chairs will arrive soon for the choir. These include fold-down desks so students can take notes during lectures.

The music department is currently working on fund raising through the eScrip program.

This program allows participating merchants to contribute a percentage of customers’ grocery loyalty cards, credit card and debit/ATM card purchases to the school or an organization of choice.
Those participating in the eScrip program can designate their money for the band, choir or both.
