Home School students study craft of writing

Coarsegold Home School students in grades 3-8 met weekly during the spring semester for a writing class. They learned about the craft of writing through reading like writers and studying author's craft.

They also spent a great deal of time writing poetry. "Poetry is a wonderful way for students to play with language and build confidence in their writing," says teacher Denise Bausch. The students' work was featured at the Showcase of Schools in March.

On the last day of class, students wrote a poem for Father's Day, as well as compiled a book of the writings they have completed since the class began. This class will resume next year and will also focus on essay as well as narrative writing.
