Yosemite High School has had a great opening of the school year, highlighted by the recent release of the Academic Performance Index numbers for the 2002-2003 school year. Yosemite High School posted an API of 764, which was a 60 point increase over the prior year. This far exceeded the 5-point growth target for 2002, and was among the highest API scores for comprehensive high schools in Central California.

The academic success of students was matched by similar results in the extra-curricular arena. League championships in football, volleyball, girls’ cross country, second place finishes in girls’ golf and boys’ cross country, and an individual league singles champion in girls’ tennis highlighted a successful fall sports season.

The band and choir programs performed a fall music concert on October 21, and are scheduled to move into the new music building in early December. The fall drama production of “Star” was the final performance in the old theater building, with renovation of the existing building into a 400 seat performing arts center scheduled to begin in December.

The recent showing of “Got Glow” in the Badger Art Gallery showcased outstanding student art work.

The Yosemite High School Future Farmers of America chapter had an outstanding showing at the Madera District Fair with a number of students bringing home top awards.

Parents and students are reminded that the guidance department will be hosting its annual Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, December 10, in the school library. Representatives from CSU Fresno will be conducting a workshop on financial aid and completing the FAFSA form. Parents of senior students who are planning on attending college are strongly encouraged to attend.

We will be winding down the fall semester in December with final exams scheduled for the week of December 15-19. School will be on a minimum day schedule December 17, 18, and 19 with school ending at 12:10.
