Rivergold students part of Secret Friends project

As part of their Social Studies unit, the third graders in Linda Webster’s class at Rivergold School are participating in a year-long community service project called Secret Friends. The goal of the project is to instill leadership qualities in the students.

“We all know that true community leaders give back to their community,” Webster says. “They seek to make their community a better place in which to live. These third graders will make Rivergold School ‘the happiest place on Earth’ by making students’ or staff members’ daily lives a little happier.”

Every month, each student will choose a Secret Friend. The students will draw or paint pictures, make cards, pay them compliments, tell them jokes, bring them a flower from their gardens and so forth.

“The children will learn firsthand how gratifying it is to make someone’s daily life more cheerful,” Webster says.

They challenge other third graders in the mountain area to start their own Secret Friends project.
