Students in Home School busy with many activities

Coarsegold Union School District Home School students have been very busy so far this school year.

As part of a study of caves and caverns, students visited Boyden Cavern in Sequoia National Park as well as taking a subterranean tour of the Forestiere Underground Gar-dens in Fresno.

Students in the theater class continue rehearsing their upcoming play “Bigger than Life” which will be performed on January 9 at Rivergold Elementary. Teena Hagerman of Coarsegold Per-forming Arts Center, a CUSD Home School parent, is teaching the class and is excited about their progress.

Students in the Power Point class spent time in the library last week researching their topics and are creating a story board from which they will create their presentations. Through this class, students are learning both library and Internet research skills, how to summarize information, how to save pictures from the Internet, and how to create a Power Point presentation.

Participants in the writing class, who were previously working on creative writing, are now moving into learning how to write five-paragraph essays.

Last week, students visited the Festival of Cultures in Fresno. This was a wonderful field trip as students learned about the life and heritages of several different cultures, according to their teacher. The event featured singing and dancing, as well as opportunities for audience participation. The presentation on Medieval Europe and the Brazilian dancers were favorites of the students who attended.

This week students will be putting together Shoeboxes for Christmas. Petra Camp-bell, and her daughter, CUSD Home School student Jessica Campbell, travel to Mexico every Christmas to deliver shoeboxes full of toys and school supplies to the children of San Felipe.

The home school students are excited to contribute their time and donations towards this worthy cause.

Looking ahead, December will be a busy month as well. Students will be creating ornaments for the community Christmas tree in Oakhurst, making graham cracker houses, and visiting the Meux Home.
