PTA members and other volunteers spent a recent Saturday putting up
this shade structure on the lower field at Coarsegold Elementary School.
This is just one of several projects the PTA has worked on for the
school and more are planned. The organization holds fundraisers to
help pay for the projects.
Shade,
that ever-necessary summer essential, made its first appearance ever
on the lower field at Coarsegold Elementary School on October 18.
Towering blue poles topped by billowing sails are now part of the
ever-changing landscape.
The PTA purchased the shade structures with money raised last year
in its spring fundraiser. Money from this same fundraiser also purchased
the new playground equipment that is on the upper playground. The
commercial cost of the shade structures was bid at $14,000. The PTA,
however, paid only $2,000 because volunteers did the majority of the
work.
When the project was completed October 18, the crew consisted of Jon
Corippo, seventh grade teacher; Jeff Anderson, parent; Judy Baker,
PTA secretary and the Davis family. While there were not many volunteers,
everyone that was there put in a tremendous amount of time and energy
to make it a success, commented Coarse-gold Principal Randy Haggard.
This isn’t the end. Still to come are a new concession stand, more
plants and permanent seating.
