Saturday, April 6.
Fifty students from the Agriculture Department at Yosemite
High School will be joining the “Great Strides” walk to cure cystic fibrosis on
Saturday, April 6. The event will be held at Woodward Park in Fresno.
The students are currently signing up sponsors toward the
goal of raising $10,000 this year in the annual walk.
The money earned in the walk will be used for medical
research to find a cure for the disease.
The team will especially be walking for Nick and Blake
Ricker, two Mountain Area boys who deal with the disease every day. They spend
30 minutes twice a day getting therapy vest treatments along with inhalers that
help them cough up mucus that clogs their lungs.
They see five different specialists regularly. They cannot
digest the food they eat unless they take enzymes so they take nine capsules
every time they eat.
All donations or sponsorships for the walk must be collected
by Friday, April 5.
Individuals or businesses who would like to help sponsor a
student can call Steve Ecklund at the YHS Agriculture Department, 683-4667,
extension 261. Checks for donations payable to CFF can be mailed to the high
school at 50200 School Road [427], Oakhurst 93644.
