Yosemite FFA shear sheep, preparing them for competition at the Madera County Fair.

The Yosemite High School Future Farmers of America took home numerous awards in steers, sheep and poultry at the Madera County Fair at the beginning of September.

Castin Ecklund won overall in steers, plus taking grand champion steer, third-place round robin, first-place showmanship, first in bred and fed and outstanding steer exhibitor.

Mandie Miles received reserve grand champion FFA steer.

In sheep, Heather Plumb placed first in her market class. Bridgett Olsen received reserve supreme champion FFA sheep, fourth-place round robin and outstanding sheep exhibitor.

Elizabeth Hicks did an outstanding job by taking first-place pen of market ducks. Hollie Shreve placed second in pen of market ducks and fourth place in her showmanship class.

Heather Norman took best super heavy-weight turkey. Craig Norman dominated with champion market birds. Casey Robeson placed first in his heavy-weight turkey class.

Other Yosemite FFA exhibitors were Nick Burkert and Tori Rubottom, market swine; Odie Erickson, lamb; Kristen Lukan, market swine/poultry; Kaley Franklin, steer; and Kim Youman, market steer.

The FFA is getting ready for the Cow Palace Grand National Stock Show in San Francisco at the end of October.
