FFA President Heather Plumb poses with the recently won awards.
The annual FFA
Convention was held in Fresno April 17-20 at Selland Arena.
The Yosemite FFA attending team consisted of Heather Plumb, Yosemite
chapter president and sectional secretary; Ashley Vetter, reporter;
Shannon Smith, secretary; Crystal Hubbard, sentinel; Castin Ecklund,
Yosemite chapter treasurer and sectional sentinel; Amanda Canning,
Taylor Williamson, Kati Simms, Travis Ecklund, Nick Burkert and
Lindsay Bolsta.
The FFA Convention is a fast-paced group of days in which the participating
members present opening speeches, have competitions among members,
attend industrial field trips and workshops at Fresno State College
with officers from neighboring states, elect new state officers
and say good-bye to the departing ones. They are also involved in
seminars which pertain to each individual’s interests. The last
evening of the convention is highlighted by a farewell dance.
This year the Yosemite FFA was honored by receiving the coveted
and prestigious National Chapter Award and the National Gold Award.
This is the first year the Mountain Area has received such awards.
The Yosemite FFA chapter advisor, Mr. Steve Ecklund, was unable
to attend this year and the awards were accepted by Heather Plumb
on behalf of the Yosemite Chapter and Mr. Ecklund.
The awards were presented by Heather Plumb to the Yosemite High
School administration board and principal Steve Raupp at a recent
board meeting. Mr. Raupp accepted the awards and stated they will
be proudly displayed in the Yosemite High School administration
office.
