New and Intermediate Classes beginning in February:

NEW: Web site development for Web 2.0, Feb. 14 through April 3, 6 to 9 p.m., Ahwahnee High School (Road 427, Oakhurst); cost is $60. Shaun Vetter is the instructor. This six-week course will introduce advanced students to the tools and concepts needed to develop content driven Web sites. The class will explore Joomla, which is an open source content management system. The aim of the course is to teach students to use free software to create and manage community Web sites. Areas that will be explored include static pages, dynamic pages, blogs, forums, and users.

Microsoft Word, March 4 through April 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the library computer lab at Yosemite High School (Road 427, Oakhurst); cost is $30. Dan Larsen is the instructor. This class replaces Beginning Word, Intermediate Word, and Advanced Word. The five-week course covers all the features of the word-processing software.

Welding started Jan. 23 and continues through April 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Building 500 at Yosemite High School; cost is $100. Jeff Kirby is the instructor. This 12-week course is designed to develop student awareness and skills in the area of arc and oxyacetylene welding for light projects.

Intermediate Quickbooks, Feb. 25 and 27 and March 3, 5 and 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the library computer lab at Yosemite High School; cost is $60. Denise Brosi is the instructor. This course continues the Quickbooks training, teaching students to set up and pay employees, track and pay payroll tax liabilities, utilize time tracking with timesheets, work with the time and billing feature, set up and manage inventory, set up and define sales tax and pay sales tax, create graphs and more. Students will need a portable thumb/flash drive and-or a CD for backup purposes.

Getting to Know Your Car, Feb. 5, 7 and 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Yosemite High School auto shop; cost is $45. Larry Capsel is the instructor. This six-hour class is designed to help those who have little or no knowledge of their automobile. They will learn to better communicate with the service writer at a dealership or with their personal mechanic.

Introduction to the Internet, (class began Feb. 2) March 3, and April 5 in Computer Lab 32 at Yosemite High School from 9 a.m. to noon; cost is $30. Dan Hammerling is the instructor. The course teaches students how to get onto the Internet and what to do once they are there. They learn about e-mail, and how to research a specific topic.

Drawing began Jan. 24 through April 10 at Yosemite Adult School (Road 427, Oakhurst) from 1 to 3 p.m.; cost is $80. Mary Jane Campbell-Mann is the instructor. This 10-week course is for beginning, novice, and intermediate levels. This class will be conducted with a sketchbook, pencils, pens and erasers. Fundamental principles of sketching and drawing will be presented along with some projects. A supply list will be given in class.

Sketching and beginning watercolor began Jan. 25 through April 11 at Yosemite Adult School from 9:30 a.m.-noon; cost is $80. Mary Jane Campbell-Mann is the instructor. This 10-week course is for beginning, novice, and intermediate levels. Students will learn different sketching techniques and watercolor tips to document memories from their travels. Students must provide their own supplies and equipment.

Novice and intermediate watercolor began Jan. 25 through April 11 at Yosemite Adult School from 1 to 3 p.m.; cost is $80. Mary Jane Campbell-Mann is the instructor. This 10-week course is for novice and intermediate levels. Background knowledge of drawing skills is helpful. Students will use this as lab time; they are to take their own painting to train and learn from the instructor. Contents of the class will include composition, value, color, painting techniques and perspective. Students must provide their own supplies and equipment.

Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation / first aid is taught several times during the semester. They are taught as prescribed and approved by the Fresno / Kings / Madera EMS Agency. The course teaches the skills and knowledge to react to medical emergencies for adults, children, and infants. Students will learn to prevent, recognize, and treat choking, heart attack, and other medical emergencies. They will also learn the skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize, and treat fractures, cuts, and burns. If CPR is required for a student's job, they should check with their licensing agency -- Emergency and Safety Institute.

CPR/first aid classes cost $25; they are held in Rooms 57-58 at Yosemite High School from 6 to 10 p.m. on the following dates: Feb. 11 and 12; March 10 and 11; April 14 and 15; May 5 and 6.
