YHS Special Guest Speaker
Staff Sergeant Misty Bunker

September 9, 2003

Staff Sergeant Misty Bunker spoke to YHS classes about her recent experiences in the US Army while she was stationed Kuwait and Iraq.

She has just returned to the US after spending 11 months in Kuwait and Iraq. Misty is a former Porterville high school student graduating in 1998. She played on the basketball and football teams. She gave a firsthand account of her experiences in Kuwait and Iraq to history and psychology classes. Her most harrowing experience was when she was in her foxhole. Her weapon jammed and she couldn't get it cleared. A 21-year-old soldier from Texas saved her life by running from his foxhole to engage the enemy who was coming up on Misty. She shared her photos from Iraq and some Iraqi money. Misty said the majority of people in Baghdad (90%+) were happy and glad to US was there. She is a recipient of the Bronze Star award.

Below are some photos of Misty and copies of a few of her pictures from Iraq.
