Retired Brigadier General Ed Munger
visits Yosemite High School
September 24, 2003

Mr. Alan Graas brought Retired Brigadier General Ed Munger to YHS to speak to a group of students from Mrs. Blum's and Mrs. Brown's fourth period classes. The Retired General encouraged the students to be aware and not to be misled by the media. He said there is a lot of additional information available so be informed from multiple resources about the US military operations throughout the world.

Below are some photos during the presentation.

Students took notes and wrote the following observations:

- 1801 was the first war on terrorism. Marines sent to Morocco.
- In his opinion, he thinks the media is lying about Iraqi people. I agree with him. Most people think that all people from Iraq are bad and they only believe this because the media is telling them this.
- He was very interesting to listen to because he is a part of the military branch. He can say this stuff and it isn't like listening to your history teacher.
- I agree with how the media doesn't tell the whole story about what was going on and how they over exaggerate things.
- 1,200 schools opened (in Afghanistan) and 90% of girls going to school, sewage system put in place, progress made in forming a constitution. Media does not show benefits of war, only downfalls and bad things happening.
- The press isn't telling us about all the good things that are happening over in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have a lot of support from the people of these countries. They're tired of fear!
- Korea is the biggest threat to peace today.
- Since U.N. was formed there have been 123 wars and the U.N. has only gotten involved twice.
- We've never collected for rebuilding a country.
- Our troops have been pulled out of Saudi Arabia because the country is possibly getting ready for a revolution.
- The surest way to avoid war is to have interlocking communities with a lot of commerce so that going to war is not affordable.
